Quote and Person of the day- Michael Jordan
“Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.”
Michael Jordan was born in 1963. His biography on the official NBA website states: "By acclamation, Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time.”
As a young boy, Michael was heavily influenced and pushed by his older brother Larry Jordan. The two athletic brothers grew up playing basketball in their backyard every evening. They were both strong players, and it wasn’t until Michael grew a lot taller than Larry that he started to beat his brother regularly.
Larry once said “We had this barbecue pit that we’d use as the backstop and we’d play baseball with a tennis ball, and we had numerous battles. If I lost, I had to keep playing until I won. That’s why, more often than not, it would end in a fight.”
Michael once said of Larry “I built my talents on the shoulders of someone else's talent.”
He tried out for the varsity basketball team during his sophomore year, but at 5'11", he was deemed too short to play at that level. Motivated to prove his worth, Jordan became the star of the junior varsity team. The following summer, he grew four inches (10 cm) and trained rigorously.
In his first game in Madison Square Garden against the New York Knicks, Jordan received a standing ovation of almost one minute. He is considered one of the greatest athletes in history.
Tenacity was a key factor in Michael Jordans success. Below are a few more quotes from the basketball legend.
“I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can’t accept not trying.”
I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life and that is why I succeed.”
“I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”
